09 April 2002
'. AGE-NC Project No 98-0497
30. PROCEDURES
Ground water monitoring and sampling procedures were performed in accordance with the
AGE-prepared and EHD-approved Monitoring Well Installation WorkPlan,dated 09 June 2000 The
work was performed to monitor dissolved petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations in ground water
and to characterize ground water flow direction and gradient on the site
3 1 WELL MONITORING AND EVACUATION
' On 04 March 2001, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water from
the well casing tops in wells MW-1 through MW-5 The depths to ground water are summarized in
Table 1
After water levels were gauged, a disposable plastic bailer was used to evacuate (purge) each
' monitoring well of a minimum of three casing-water volumes (approximately 7 to 8 5 gallons) of
water Temperature,pH,and conductivity were measured at regular intervals using an Oakton water
analyzer The field data sheets are included in Appendix A Purged water was stored on site in
55-gallon drums
' 3 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
' Prior to the collection of ground water samples, the depth to ground water was re-measured in each
well to ensure that a minimum of 80% of the initial water volume had recharged Water samples
were then collected from each well using a clean, disposable plastic bailer The water was transferred
' into one 1-liter amber bottle and three chilled 40-m1 volatile orgamc analysis(VOA)vials containing
0 5 ml hydrochloric acid(18%)as a sample preservative After collection, the samples were labeled
and placed in a chilled container for transportation under chain-of-custody to McCampbell
Analytical Laboratories(MAI),a Department ofHealth Services-certified analytical laboratory Each
sample was analyzed for
• TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
• BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020
As directed-by the EHD by letter dated 20 July 2001, ground water samples are to be analyzed for
oxygenated fuel additives annually
i
Advanced GeoEnvironmentaE,Inc
