• Wells with unknown construction and/or located in an area of known or suspected
contamination
2. Wells will be destroyed by pressure grouting and left in place if the most recent sampling
laboratory data reports non-detectable concentrations of contaminants of concern and with
acceptable laboratory detection limits.
• A neat cement grout (containing less than 4% bentonite) will be pumped under pressure
through a tremie pipe to the bottom of the well.
• After the groundwater has been removed and the grout has been filled to the top of the
well casing, a pressure cap will be fitted to the casing and the well pressurized to 25 psi.
If the grout settles, additional grout will be pumped into the well casing. This assures
grout is pumped into the filter pack.
• Following grouting, at least the top three (3) feet of the well will be drilled out with an
auger that is at least one (1) foot larger in diameter than the auger originally used to
install the well.
• In addition, the soil around the cut-off casing will be removed to a depth of an additional
six (6) inches below the top of the cut-off casing. Upon filling the rest of the casing,
grout sealant will be allowed to spill out of the top of the well casing to form a mushroom
cap seal, with at least six (6) inches of grout both below and above the casing.
All soil will be properly containerized for disposal. All groundwater displaced to the surface
during grout installation shall be pumped out of the excavation and containerized for proper
disposal.
Schedule and Renortin
Following SJCEHD approval of this well abandonment work plan, Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
will obtain bids from licensed drilling contractors and obtain the proper permits prior to
commencing work. Our goal is to complete the well destruction work by mid June contingent
upon work plan approval.
A summary of the well destruction and site closure activities will be presented in a report,
including a discussion of the well destruction efficiency (grout volume used versus grout volume
calculations). Copies of the report will be submitted to both the appropriate County and State
regulatory agencies prior to July 1, 2013.
If you should have any questions please do not hesitate to call.
Respectfully Submitted, 0\0
4
A` GFp
a RAYNOL 1.
KABLANOW
Raynold Kablanow II, Ph, No.5234 '
California Professional Geologist#5234 1,9r -z1_)4 Q\
Certified Hydrogeologist#442 FOF CAO-
