Geological recknics Inc. Page 7
. .Additional Pilot Test Work Plan
Project No.770.2
January 23,2009
i
4.0 DUAL PHASE EXTRACTION TEST
Soil vapor extraction..and_-groundwater extraction are two proven technologies for the
remediation of gasoline impacted sites. Dual phase extraction involves the use of high
vacuum technology to simultaneously extract groundwater and soil vapor from one well. By W '
inducing_a cone of depression by extracting groundwater, additional vadose-zone soil,ls.._
exposed-to vapor.extraction.' For the purpose sof thi pilot test, GTI proposes to utilize a
mobile treatment unit for a period of two-w-w -acted vapors will be treated with a
thermal oxidizer and groundwater will be stored in a trailer and hauled off site for disposal
GTI'will attempt to minimize groundwater extraction (except for the'core of the plume) and
apply the full vacuum-tothe,vadose zone``"' "_. - a
Groundwater samples influent to the knock out tank will be collected for estimating the
contaminant mass ,removal. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for the following
compounds:
• TPH-D using EPA Method 8015M -
• TPH-G using EPA Method 8260
I
• BTEX using EPA Method 8260
Vapor samples are also collected for estimating the contaminant mass removal in vapor
phase. Vapor samples are analyzed for the following compounds: /IT-60AX ao,rb&40- lv'
• TPH-D using EPA Method TO-17, samples will be collected in charcoal tfiibes
i
• TPH-G using EPA Method TO-15, samples will be collected in Soma anister
• BTEX using EPA Method TO-15, samples will be collected in Soma Canister
 0-f- 7V 3
Over the course of this tw eek„dual.phase pilot test at least 6 groundwater samples.and
vapor samples will be collected. Throughout the test,-_groundwater'flow rate, vacuum, pair
flow rate, temperature, influent and effluent vapor OVM measurements, groundwater level in
neighboring groundwater wells and vacuum on top of extraction or monitoring wells in the
. vicinity of original extraction well will be monitored.bVM readings are also recorded on top
I
of neighboring wells.
Al r V
4.1 Extraction Wells
I` t GTI proposed to install- three_new.extraction wells with the-.constructional.specifications
given in the following table. The boring diameter is 10 inches and.well casing-:diameter.is,4
_ . - .•
inches-in all„3wells. EW-4.-and EW-5 are dual phase extraction wells and EW-6 is solely
Lsoil vapor extraction well since its entire screen interval is situated in vadose zone.
