Mv5 55-7 .,' !LZ 544age 9
g C-W'
6-0
Additional Pilot Test Work Plan mow•la 3 JS `7
Project No.770.2 p to
January 23,2009 M w -1 15 1
Second Test:
v A second test will then be conducted by extracting from shallow vadose zone well EW-6
with vacuum influence measured in deep vadose zone wells EW-101, EW-102 and EW-103
and the adjacent monitoring wells MW-4, MW-5 and MW-7. The test will continue for 5
days and 3 groundwater amples, if any, and 3 air samples will be collected for the analyses
mentioned in Section 4.. Vacuum, OVM, and groundwater depth will again be measured a
minimum of 10 times in the above mentioned wells over the course of the 5 day test. The
., system is turned off for 9 days to get back to the initial conditions before starting the third
test.
Third Test:
A third test will then be conducted by extracting from deep vadose zone well EW-5 with
vacuum influence measured in shallow vadose zone wells EW-1, EW-2, EW-3 and EW-6
4_0 and the adjacent monitoring wells MW-4, MW-5 and MW-7. The test will continue for 5
days and 3 groundwater and 3 air samples will be collected for the analyses mentioned in the
Section 4.0 Vacuum, OVM, and groundwater depth will be measured a minimum of 10
60 times in the above mentioned wells over the course of the 5 day test.
These three high vacuum tests will be used to determine the contaminant mass removal in
liquid and vapor phases and investigate the effectiveness of dual phase extraction method for
groundwater and soil remediation at the site.
r
1
4.5 Effectiveness Evaluation
As stated above in Section 4.4 the amount of pressure necessary for demonstrating vacuum
influence in soil vapor extraction technology is generally regarded as at least 0.1 inches of
water vacuum. The radius of influence of the dual phase extraction will be estimated by
comparing the changes in pressures and depth to water at the monitoring wells that are
located at varying distances from the extraction wells.
Excelchem Environmental Labs of Roseville, California performs air analysis (EPA Methods
TO-17 and TO-15) for TPH-diesel, TPH-gasoline and BTEX constituents in vapor. GTI will
take at least 9 vapor samples during pilot test extraction and will work with Excelchem (or
other labs) to quantify mass removal rates during the pilot test for all 3 scenarios explained in
Section 4.4.
6W
5.0 SCHEDULE AND REPORTING
6W Geological Technics Inc. anticipates beginning fieldwork no later than 30 days after work
plan approval and USTCFP cost pre-approval. The information gathered during this phase of
work will be presented in a report, which will include a summary of the pilot tests with
extraction pressure/vacuum influence, water level and OVM reading data. Dr. Ray
