r Interim Investigation Report August 17, 19996
Marcr's Diesel Rerwce Site Stockton, Califon a
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Lush Geosciences prepared this report presenting the results of the most recent phase of a
subsurface investigation to assess the possibility of soil and groundwater contamination at the
' Marei's Diesel Service facility The subject property is located on an access cross street to
ry
Loomis Road, referred to as Walter Road, in Stockton, California Figure 1 illustrates the location
of the site The purpose of the investigation was to characterize petroleum contamination in soil
directly beneath the former underground tank excavation A workplan dated September 14, 1995,
' prepared by Lush Geosciences, proposed installing at least three 4-inch diameter vent wells to
depths of 65-70 feet Although the workplan was accepted by San Joaquin County Public Health
Services Environmental Health Division (SJCPHSEHD), subsequent discussions with
SJCPHSEHD determined that it would be cost-effective to drill one exploratory boring through
the middle of the former tank excavation prior to construction of the vent wells Based on the
conditions encountered in that boring, construction of the vent wells might not be warranted
1.1 Previous Work
On March 12, 1988, two 5,000-gallon underground fuel tanks and associated pumps and
ORpiping were removed from the site Apparently, an inspector from SJCPHSEHD, present when
n the tanks were removed, noted product in the bottom of the excavation Laboratory analysis of
soil samples collected from the bottom of the excavation detected Total Extractable Hydrocarbons
at concentrations up to 16,000 parts per million(ppm) As a result, additional soil was
overexcavated on March 14, 1988 The excavation was extended to a depth of roughly 29 ft, and
soil samples were collected from the bottom For unexplained reasons, the samples were analyzed
p Y
for only benzene, toluene, and xylenes The results of the analyses are summarized in Table 1
1
4P Three groundwater monitoring wells were installed at the site in April 1992, and have
been sampled periodically since that time Results of analyses of soil samples from the borings in
which the wells were constructed, as well as results of subsequent groundwater analyses are
wa summarized in Table 1
i
T OF
I
1N
f
'i 524-001 - l LUSH GECSCYENCE5
c
fc
.:: ,.....:,,,:, u.,.0.....c..a.rdHee[c ..n.:.—..s.., ...znrta.x... -,s.g-i.,r-,....- .m..c.., .._,.. ...mn `- •nYLaao'.•_ s,...
