'F Interim Invests ation Re=prt August 17, 1996 <br /> Marci's Diesel Service Side Stockton, California <br />!I ,,,, 1 1 1 Current Investigation <br /> U <br /> A Workplan for this phase of the investigation was submitted to and accepted by the San <br /> Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division Although the workplan <br /> proposed installing at least three vent wells, this phase of our site Investigation was limited to <br /> drilling one exploratory boring through the middle of the former tank excavation to determine <br /> whether construction of the wells is warranted <br /> 2.0 SOIL BORING <br />' Soil boring LB 1 was drilled to a total depth of 80 ft below the ground surface using a <br /> Mobile B-81 drilling rig, equipped with 8-in-diameter, continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers <br /> roperated by V & W Drilling of Rio Vista, California The auger flights were steam-cleaned prior <br /> to use to minimize the possibility of contamination Samples were described using the Unified <br /> Soil Classification System (Figure B-1), descriptions of the materials encountered are presented <br /> on the Log of Boring in Appendix B (Figure B-2) <br /> During drilling, soil samples were collected at 5-ft vertical intervals using a California- <br /> modified, split-spoon sampler equipped with clean brass sleeves The number of blows required <br /> to drive the sampler each successive 6-in interval was counted and recorded to give an indication <br /> of soil consistency Samples were collected by advancing the boring to a point immediately <br /> ' above the sampling depth, then driving the sampler into the native soil through the hollow center <br /> of the auger The sampler was driven 18 ins with a standard 140-1b hammer dropped 30 ins <br /> ' Drill cuttings were sealed in 55-gallon drums and left at the site pending the results of <br /> analyses Disposal of the soil remains the responsibility of the client Lush Geosciences can <br /> ' arrange to have the soil removed to an appropriate disposal facility or for treatment of the soil to <br /> reduce the contaminant levels with the authorization of the client <br /> rSoil samples from each interval were sealed with Teflon tape, plastic end caps, and duct <br /> tape The samples were labeled and placed in iced storage prior to pickup by the analytical <br /> laboratory Soil samples were selected for chemical analysis from each sample depth below the <br /> bottom of the tank excavation A Chain of Custody Record was initiated by the field geologist <br /> ' and accompanied the samples to the laboratory A copy of this record is presented in Appendix C <br /> was analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline and <br /> 1 Each of the soil samplesy Y <br /> diesel using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015 (modified) with purge and <br /> I rtrap EPA Method 5030 and for volatile gasoline constituents BTEX using EPA Method 8020 with <br /> purge and trap EPA Method 5030 Soil samples were analyzed by Excelchem Environmental <br /> I <br /> ' 524-001 - LUSH GEOSCIENCES <br /> —- .tea. �+ •ti -- --- <br />
