The vials were labeled and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. Clean
nitrile gloves were worn at all times in handling of the sample and sampling equipment.
2,3 Groundwater Sample Analyses
One groundwater sample from each borehole was submitted to Sequoia Analytical of
Sacramento, California(State Certified Laboratory#1624) for the following analysis:
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene(BTEX)by EPA method 8020.
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G)by EPA method 5030/8015(m).
• Gasoline oxygenates (MTBE, DIPS,ETBE;TAME and TBA)by EPA method 8260.
• 1,2 DCA & EDB by EPA method 8260.
A chain of custody was completed for all samples submitted. and tracked to ensure sample
integrity.
3.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
r The analytical results and field observations are discussed below. Tabular summaries of all
L. analytical data are included in Appendix A, and the boring logs are included in Appendix B.
A site map with Geoprobe locations is included as Figure 2.
3.1 Analytical Results
i
Several problems were encountered with the soil samples analyses for this project. Sequoia
Analytical waited until the last day of the 14 day holding time.-to run the soil samples and
encountered an equipment failure. The laboratory technician opted to run the samples
utilizing a Methanol extraction technique that resulted in elevated detection limits. The lab
brought the problem to the attention of GTI's Mr. Ray Kablanow who directed the lab to re-
analyze the samples using the correct extraction protocol,-albeit after the holding time had
expired. Both sets of laboratory data are reported in Table l in Appendix A.
Questions regarding the laboratory problems should be directed to SequoiaAnalytical
Lab's Ms. Sylvia Krenn @(916) 921-9600 ext, 11.
rNo problems were encountered with the water, sample analytical procedures.
4
Soil Sample Analyses
r • None of the nine soil samples analyzed contained contaminant concentrations above the
+ laboratory reporting limits for both:
i
o The May 17, 2004 methanol extracted samples with associated higher detection
limits.
C, o The June 8, 2004 re-analyses performed after the 14-day holding time with the
correct detection limits.
L
i
