Its
7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Natural biodegradation and aeration successfully remedzated the stockpiled soil Groundwater has not
been significantly effected by the petroleum contaminated soil Based upon hnstoncal analytical data,
this residual soil contamination should not result in adverse effects to public health or beneficial uses
Analytical results indicate that natural biodegradative and dispersion processes will reduce the small
amount of remaining contaminants over tune Case closure is recommended
The clean stockpiled soil will be used for fill material in the field adjacent to the site The field is owned
by the Manteca Unified School District and has many low spots The only drum containing monitoring
well purge water was sampled on April 9, 1996, and analyzed for BTEX The sample contained no
detectable concentrations ofBTEX Analytical results are contained in Appendix C The 35-gallons of
purge water in the drum will be surface discharged
8.0 WORKPLAN FOR WELL ABANDONMENT
Smyth Environmental has prepared this workplan for the proposed well abandonments at the Manteca
Unified School District located at 2901 East Louise Avenue, Lathrop, California (Figure 1) The
locations of the monitoring wells are shown on Figure 2 A permit application and associated fee is
1 contained in Appendix G Upon receipt of the well destruction permit, Smith Environmental will
schedule field activities
The well will be abandoned by a C57 licensed drilling company The well will be abandoned by
filling the well casing and filter pack with a neat cement/bentonite grout utilizing a pressure
grouting tool For protection of the seal at the land surface, a hole at least two feet in diameter
will be excavated around the outside of the well casing to a depth of approximately two feet
below ground surface The sealing grout will be allowed to spill over into the excavation After
the grout is set, the excavation will be filled with native soil and covered with an asphalt patch to
' restore the site
Upon completion of abandoning the well, Smith Environmental will prepare a brief letter report
describing well abandonment activities The letter will include request for closure certification of
the site
S
E
w 1943371dosure doc 7
•
SNrFH
1
