Its <br /> 7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> Natural biodegradation and aeration successfully remedzated the stockpiled soil Groundwater has not <br /> been significantly effected by the petroleum contaminated soil Based upon hnstoncal analytical data, <br /> this residual soil contamination should not result in adverse effects to public health or beneficial uses <br /> Analytical results indicate that natural biodegradative and dispersion processes will reduce the small <br /> amount of remaining contaminants over tune Case closure is recommended <br /> The clean stockpiled soil will be used for fill material in the field adjacent to the site The field is owned <br /> by the Manteca Unified School District and has many low spots The only drum containing monitoring <br /> well purge water was sampled on April 9, 1996, and analyzed for BTEX The sample contained no <br /> detectable concentrations ofBTEX Analytical results are contained in Appendix C The 35-gallons of <br /> purge water in the drum will be surface discharged <br /> 8.0 WORKPLAN FOR WELL ABANDONMENT <br /> Smyth Environmental has prepared this workplan for the proposed well abandonments at the Manteca <br /> Unified School District located at 2901 East Louise Avenue, Lathrop, California (Figure 1) The <br /> locations of the monitoring wells are shown on Figure 2 A permit application and associated fee is <br /> 1 contained in Appendix G Upon receipt of the well destruction permit, Smith Environmental will <br /> schedule field activities <br /> The well will be abandoned by a C57 licensed drilling company The well will be abandoned by <br /> filling the well casing and filter pack with a neat cement/bentonite grout utilizing a pressure <br /> grouting tool For protection of the seal at the land surface, a hole at least two feet in diameter <br /> will be excavated around the outside of the well casing to a depth of approximately two feet <br /> below ground surface The sealing grout will be allowed to spill over into the excavation After <br /> the grout is set, the excavation will be filled with native soil and covered with an asphalt patch to <br /> ' restore the site <br /> Upon completion of abandoning the well, Smith Environmental will prepare a brief letter report <br /> describing well abandonment activities The letter will include request for closure certification of <br /> the site <br /> S <br /> E <br /> w 1943371dosure doc 7 <br /> • <br /> SNrFH <br /> 1 <br />
