May Shell Oil Meeting
Page 2
141 North El Dorado Street,Stockton-Mary Meays
Following remedial efforts, soil borings and monitoring confirmed that the site had undergone effective
remediation. During post remedial groundwater monitoring,MTBE and chlorinated solvents were detected in
samples collected. Once Shell and Enviros have reviewed the most recent results along with possible sources of the
chlorinated solvents,a summary table and a request for closure evaluation will be submitted, then PHS/EHD will
will discuss the site with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board staff and if warranted direct the
preparation of a closure report.
6131 Pacific Avenue,Stockton-Mary Meays
The additional investigation to define the extent of groundwater contamination was discussed. If Ron Slate grants
access to his property a total of four monitoring wells will be installed by July 3, 1997. Shell Oil will prepare an
access agreement for Ron Slate's review by June 6, 1997. The agreement will limit access to non-business hours so
that Air Touch's business operations will not be affected. Air Touch will also have to approve of the access
agreement. The installation of monitoring wells on the Slate property will be limited to planter areas. Copies of
reports and correspondence regarding the Slate property will be forwarded to Ron SIate and to Air Touch.
2575 Country Club Boulevard, Stockton-Mary Meays
The domestic wells which were sampled shortly after the unauthorized release was discovered will be resampled
and analyzed for petroleum constituents and MTBE. The Caltrans permit should be issued by early June for the
offsite well proposed southwest of MW8. There was a discussion of the soil analytical results that were obtained
from samples collected at 46.5 feet below grade as evidence of vertical migration. PHS/EHD requested that a
monitoring well be installed to evaluate the quality of water at a greater depth than is currently monitored. There
will be a response to PHS/EHD's request for further vertical delineation of the contamination within the next
quarterly report submitted.
A follow-up meeting was scheduled for September 17, 1997 at 9:30 a.m.at the office of PHS/EHD. Thank you far
the opportunity to meet and discuss the Shell sites in San Joaquin County. Hopefully, these meetings will facilitate
communication and enhance a cooperative relationship.
