_• rrr'
Ca[ifomia
f,a
supplied the northwest fuel island, and two fuel islands located southeast of the new
On January 7, 1989, the three sets of product lines were excavated. Approximately 60
Ards of soil and backfill were excavated and stockpiled with the 100 cubic yards of soil excavated
from the former tank.Iocation. Soil samples were taken from 2 feet below the surface at each fuel island,
and were identified as T-1, T-2, and T-3 with sampling locations shown in Figure 2. The results of
chemical analysis of the soil samples are presented in Table 3. Chemical analysis of soil samples collected
from beneath the dispenser island (T-1, T-2, and T-3) indicated concentrations of TPH at 15.0, 24.0,.and
1,510.0 ppm, respectively.
TABLE 3
Chemical Analysis of Soil Samples from
the Product Line Trenches
Concentrations in milligrams per kilogram/mg/kg (ppm)
Organic
Sample Date Approximate Ethyl- Lead
1D Collected Depth feet Benzene benzene Toluene Xvlenes TPHa EDBb (ppm)
T-1 01/07/89 4 <0.001 0.080 0.045 0.174 15.0 <0.001 <0.05
T-2 01/07/89 4 <0.001 0.060 0.030 <0.238 24.0` <0.001 <0.05
T-3 01/07/89 4 <1.56 5.25 2.4 31.8 1,510.0r <0.001 <0.05
PL-4 01189 4 <0.001 <0.001 0.015 0.046 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
PL-5 01/25/89 4 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
PL-6 01/25189 4 <0.001 <0.001 0.012 0.029 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
PL-7 01/25/89 4 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
PL-8 01/25/89 4 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
PL-9 01125/89 4 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <0.001 <10.0 <0.001 <0.05
'Total petroleum hydrocarbons.
bEthylene Dibromide.
Identified as gasoline.
On January 25, 1989, six additional soil samples were taken at 20-foot intervals within the product line
trenches. The chemical analyses of the soil samples are presented in Table 2. These soil samples were E
identified as PL-4 through PL-9 with sampling locations shown its Figure 2. Concentrations of TPH were
below the analytical detection limit of 10 ppm. Concentrations of toluene and xylenes were detected in
soil samples PL-4 and PL-6. The analyses reported were 0.015 and 0.012 ppm toluene and 0.046 and 0.029
ppm xylenes, respectively.
