' Soil samples were obtained using a "Modified California" drive
sampler inserted with brass liners. Soil samples selected for
chemical analysis were sealed with aluminum foil , capped with
' plastic caps, secured with duct-tape, labeled, and immediately
placed into a chilled cooler for transport to Chromolab of San
Ramon, California, a California State-Certified analytical
' laboratory, under strict chain-of-custody protocol where they were
analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline and Diesel
(EPA method 8015) and Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene, and Total
Xylenes (EPA method 8020 ) .
Well Development and Purging
t Monitoring Wells were developed and purged by RMC Lonestar
Environmental personnel on October 11 , 1991.
' The wells were developed by pumping/surging a minimum of 10 well
casing volumes of water from the well with a centrifugal pump. The
purpose of well development was to remove sediments left in the
well and sand pack during construction and to enhance hydraulic
' communication with the surrounding sediments.
Groundwater Sampling
tThe wells were sampled on November 21, 1991 and April 16 , 1992.
Prior to sampling water levels were recorded from the top of the
casing. Three well casing volumes of water were purged from each
well using a Teflon bailer. During purging, , the pH, electrical
conductivity, and temperature of the discharged water was monitored
and recorded at regular intervals. Water samples collected from
' each well were placed in laboratory supplied 1-liter amber glass
jars and 40-mL VOA vials using a clean Teflon. Sample containers
were placed in a cooled ice chest and transported to a California
State Certified Laboratory for analysis using strict chain-of-
custody protocol.
1
1
1
B2
