collected UST samples T2-N-16.0 and T3-N-15.0.The other stockpile represents approximately twenty
seven cubic yards of soil that was generated on October 3, 1995 during the removal of hydrocarbon-
impacted soil that was beneath Touchstone's previously collected dispenser sample,D-5-3.0.Total depth
of the resulting excavation was seven feet below grade. Soil samples were collected by Touchstone at the
limits of this excavation on October 3, 1995 without direct oversight by SJCPHS personnel. Chevron will
provide at least forty eight hour notification to SJCPHS of its intent to sample these two stockpiles for
landfill disposal characterization.
On October 3, 1995,Touchstone also collected a soil sample from beneath a sand and grease trap that was
removed from the service bay floor. During this sampling there were approximately two cubic yards of soil
stockpiled onsite. As specified in the Notice To Abate, which was issued at the subject site by Ron Roe of
your staff on October 4, 1995, Chevron will submit a workplan to describe further excavation in this area
and resulting stockpile characterization.
By way of this letter,Chevron is providing notification to your agency that it intends to sample the
remaining two stockpiles(approx. 67-cubic yds:)on-Wednesday,-:October 11;.:1995.-A representative from-
Touchstone Developments will be at the site at 9:00 am. It was my understanding from our telephone
conversation today that this sampling event would be considered valid even without the direct oversight by
SJCPHS personnel.
The analytical results of all stockpile sampling will be forwarded to BFI Landfill in Livermore,California.
Once approval is received from that facility and concurrence received from your agency, Chevron will
then proceed to load and transport soil stockpiles offsite. I will look forward to receiving your
concurrence.
Thank you for your willingness to consider this proposal for the disposal of stockpiled soils at the subject
site. If you have any questions or comments,I can be reached at(510) 842-8695.
i
Sincerely,
Brett L.
