' ATTACHMENT A
FIELD AND LABORTORY PROCEDURES
' HEALTH AND SAFETY
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard "Hazardous
' Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910120), and by California
Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and
Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR Title 8, Section 5192), SECOR prepared a Site-Specific
' Health and Safety Plan for use during fieldwork The field staff and contractors reviewed the Site-
Specific Health and Safety Plan before beginning field operations at the site
CPT BORINGS AND GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
' The CPT sod borings were advanced using a direct push cone penetrometer testing (CPT) rig to log
sod stratigraphy Immediately adjacent to each CPT borehole, a second direct-push borehole was
advanced to collect discrete groundwater samples Groundwater samples were collected using a
hydropunch, or similar technology, by lowering a stainless steel or Teflon bailer into accumulated
groundwater in the borehole, then retrieving and transferring the water into laboratory supplied
containers The groundwater sample containers were placed on ice for transport to the laboratory
' accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation Down-hole boring and sampling equipment was
steam-cleaned prior to and following the completion of the soil boring Down-hole sampling
equipment was washed in a tri-sodium phosphate or AlconoxTM solution between samples
' LABORATORY PROCEDURES
Groundwater samples collected were analyzed for the presence of TPHg and methanol by EPA
Method 8015, BTEX, MtBE, EtBE, DIPS, TAME, TBA, EDB, 1,2 DCA, and ethanol by EPA Method
I '. 8260B
EXPLORATORY DRILLING
The sod boring was drilled using 12-inch hollow-stem auger drilling equipment to approximately 40
feet bgs The boring was not logged due to its close proximity to CPT-2 Down-hole drilling and
sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned prior to and following the completion of the soil boring f
Down-hole sampling equipment will be washed in a tri-sodium phosphate or AlconoxTM solution
between samples
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
The boring was converted to groundwater monitoring well by Installing a 6-inch diameter, flush-
threaded, Schedule 40 PVC casing with 0 020-inch factory-slotted screen Approximately 15 feet of
screen was placed In the bottom of the boring A grade of sand appropriate to the screen size was
placed in the annular space across the entire screened interval, and extends approximately 2 feet
' above the top of the screen for each well A bentonite seal extends two feet above the sand pack 10b
The monitoring well was completed with neat cement from the bentonite seal to ground surface The
well casing was topped with a locking cap, and the wellhead contained in watertight traffic rated,
' flush mounted well box
SOIL SAMPLING FOR STOCKPILED SOIL
'
Soil samples were collected by advancing a 2-Inch diameter stainless steel sample liner into the soil
stockpile, after removing approximately 6-inches to 1-foot of surface material In the sample location
One composite of four sod samples was collected per approximately 100 cubic yards of soil Soil
samples for chemical analysis were retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with Teflon
' sheets and plastic end caps The samples were then sealed in zip-lock bags, placed on ice, and
. transported to the laboratory accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody documentation
' I Thevron1914521REPORTSICPT and extraction well SA report doc
