Main Street, Manteca, California
COUNTY: San Joaquin
ULTRAMAR CONTACT: Kenneth R. Earnest TEL. NO: 209-583-5571
BACKGROUND:
The 10,000-gallon diesel tank at the site did not pass
precision testing in 1986. The three tanks at the site were
uncovered and lined. Soil samples from the tank excavation
showed both TPHg and TPHd in detectable concentrations. Three
ground-water monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3) were
installed at the site and four vapor extraction wells (VW-4,
VW-5, VW-6, VW-7) were installed between the three tanks.
1/4-inch or less of separate-phase hydrocarbon was detected in
one ground-water monitoring well (MW-1) during 9/6/88 to
12/5/88. No separate-phase product was detected since 12/88.
Vapor extraction remediation was performed with an internal
combustion engine utilizing MW-1 and VW-4, VW-5, VW-6, and
VW-7 as extraction points from 10/13/89 to 11/17/89. A total
of approximately 1,950 pounds of hydrocarbon vapor (equivalent
to approximately 315 gallons of gasoline) were extracted and
abated.
The three ground-water monitoring wells are located in a
triangular formation around the tank cluster with
approximately 60 feet between MW-3 and the other two wells.
Ground-water gradient measurements recorded at the site have
consistently shown a flat potentiometric. ground-water
surface. BTEX concentrations in wells MW-1 and MW-2 have been
at or near State MCLs since 12/89. MW-3 has shown BTEX
concentrations within State MCLs since 9/88. The three
ground-water monitoring wells were analyzed for TPHd in 9/90.
All three wells showed nondetectable TPHd with a detection
limit of 50.0 ppb.
BEACON
A Member of the Ultramar Group of Companies #1 Quality and Service
