}
Mitigation Work Platz
Beacon Station #3-492, Manteca, California AGS86102-2P
May 26, 1987
hydrocarbons. The use of a vapor venting system is particularly
suitable for use in withdrawing volatile compounds in sandy
soils. Our preliminary Plans call for installation of four wells
completed within the vadose zone. All four wells will be
completed such that they can be used as a"r inlet wells, Irapor
recovery wells, or for subsurface air pressure monitoring. 'The
wells will be installed within the tank cavity, on both sides of
the repaired diesel storage tank, at the north and south ends of
.. the cavity. The distribution of contaminants indicated by.
Previous soil sampling s4ggests that contamination is
connentrated In the southern part of the cavity, and that the
northern two vadose wells will be most suitable for use as air
.inlet or pressure -nozAtcring wells. Monitoring well MW-2 :will be
t retrofitted for use as an air inlet well.
vadose zone wells will be drilled to a total depth of
approximately 14 feet below the ground surface. Hand augering
equipment may be used for the borings. The augers will be steam-
s
cleaned prior to;use and between borings in order to minimize the
--possibilityofidowr.-hole or cross hale contamination. Sail
samples will be collected and described at thetime of drilling.
The samples will be:C011ected at five-foot intervals from the
- 5
