California Stop Page 2
2224 Manthey Road July 16, 2012
Stockton, California 95206
remediate the impacted soil by SVE. The EHD directs that a work plan to install an SVE system
be submitted to this agency by 12 September 2012 that includes the installation of the one
additional SVE well south of the USTs.
In light of the preliminary analytical results showing moderate concentration reduction of
contaminants of concern for groundwater collected in June 2012, following the SVE pilot test
conducted in March 2012, and the favorable results reported from the SVE pilot test, the EHD
recommends delay of the ozone pilot test approved by this agency and instead focus on
installing the SVE system to see if this remedial method will suffice in achieving water quality
objectives.
As noted by AGE in Well Installation and Additional Site Assessment Report, dated 21 February
2012, the groundwater plume does not appear to be defined east of monitoring well MW-6 in the
shallow aquifer between approximately 15 and 30 feet bsg. Nevertheless, the EHD
recommends that you delay the installation of the one off-site monitoring well to be located on
the 1-5 south on-ramp, conditionally approved by this agency by letter dated 31 August 2011,
until the effects of the SVE system have been determined.
Groundwater from newly installed monitoring wells MW-9, MW-10 and MW-11 had been
sampled twice, in November 2011 and June 2012, and contaminants of concern have not been
detected in any of the samples. Therefore, the EHD directs that these three wells be sampled
annually along with MW-5 for TPH-g; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes
(BTEX); MTBE, TBA and tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME). Continue collecting groundwater
semi-annually from MW-1 through MW-4 and MW-6 through MW8 for these sarne constituents.
Please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or by email at vmccartneV@sjcehd.com if
you have any questions concerning this letter.
Sincerely,
Victoria L. McCartney, RENS Nuel C. Henderson, Jr., PG
Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist Engineering Geologist
c: Mr. Timothy J. Cuellar, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc., 837 Shaw Road, Stockton,
California 95215
Mr. James L.L. Barton, PG, California Regional Water Quality Control Board Central
Valley Region, 11020 Sun Center Drive, Suite 200, Rancho Cordova, California 95670
