(AGE), for suspension of quarterly groundwater monitoring at the
above-referenced site until the fourth quarter 2009, and an extension for performing
groundwater batch removal and cone penetration test (CPT) borings until the fourth quarter
2009. AGE informed the EHD that reimbursement for your claims by the California State
Water Resources Control Board (CSWRCB) under the Underground Storage Tank (UST)
Cleanup Fund has been delayed, resulting in a lack of financial support to implement the
above-described fieldwork.
The EHD understands the problems resulting from the current economic status of the
Cleanup Fund; however, considering the high concentrations of methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE) detected in groundwater at your site, the EHD does not consider total suspension of
groundwater sampling adequate for proper plume management. The EHD does not approve
the total suspension of sampling until the fourth quarter 2009. Instead, the EHD approves the
following sampling schedule:
• Collect groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-3, MW-7, and MW-8 semi-
annually during the first and third quarters.
• Collect groundwater samples from MW-1, MW-2, MW-4, MW-5, and MW-6
annually.
Analyze groundwater samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline
(TPHg); benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX); MTBE, tertiary-amyl
methyl ether(TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA).
