Main St.
Stockton, CA 95212
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Phase II Report dated October 12, 1999 prepared by John P. Cummings
and Associates for the above referenced site. Soil and water samples collected at this site
evidence contamination. Further investigation is necessary to evaluate the groundwater
condition and to determine the lateral and vertical extent of contamination at this site.
The highest concentrations of petroleum contaminants in soil and water were evidenced
in the Monitoring Well#1 (MW 1) location. The deepest soil sample obtained at 78 feet
below surface grade evidenced petroleum contamination. This area should be
investigated to the depth necessary to determine the vertical extent of soil contamination.
After the vertical extent of soil contamination has been determined at the site the lateral
extent of soil and water contamination should be determined. .
Installation of additional MWs will be necessary to evaluate groundwater contamination
and migration. Placement of a down gradient MW is recommended as well as placement
of an upgradient MW(in the northwestern section of the site). Additional MWs may be
necessary to define the contaminant plume at the site.
PHS/EHD recommends the cone penetrometry test boring method to obtain relevant
lithological and hydrological data prior to the placement of additional MWs and to
evaluate contaminant migration potential at this site.
Conduct a survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any other wells
within a 2,000 foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources,
municipal water suppliers and nearby industries for well information. In addition,
perform a physical search of the area to identify any wells. On a map with appropriate
scale show the site, the area within a 2,000 foot radius of the site, and the locations of all
the wells identified within that area. Submit the well address locations as they correlate
to the map and submit any known construction details of the wells (if available).
Evaluate the influence of well pumping with respect to the migration of the
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
