I
0 Pagel of 3
1 U
Mike Infurna [EH]
From: Gabe Stivala [gabe.stivala@atcassociates.com]
Sent: Friday, October 28, 2011 11:17 AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Cc: 'Ralston, Ed C.:% sellman54@atcassociates.com
Subject: 2701 W. March Lane, Stockton proposed well destruction variances
1 Mike,
1 Based on our various discussions onsite and on the telephone regarding well destructions at 76 Station located
at 2701 W. March Lane in Stockton, CA, here is a summary of the ATC's proposed variances to the originally I
proposed scope of work: d
MW-7s&d: ATC will pressure grout with mushroom cap as a result of limited access due to landscaping, trees,
and light posts; we are unable to get a drilling rig to the locations without possibly causing damage to the
property.
MW-3: ATC will air knife to the extent practicable then pull out the casing using the drill rig.
MW-8d (offsite): ATC will pressure grout with minimal excavation for mushroom cap due to the presences of an
electrical line within one foot of well.
All "AS"wells (except AS 9 s&d ) and all duel completion 2" MWs: ATC will over-drill with 15-inch augers
then drill out with 8"augers. The purpose for this procedure is based on the inability of ATC to demonstrate to SJ
County that well casing is being removed by drilling with just 8" augers (not all casing was recovered during the
first attempt perform this.
AS 9 s&d:ATC will perform minimal air knifing until pea gravel is encountered due to proximity of marked product
line and electric lines. NOTE: today we excavated this location 18"without encountering pea gravel. We could
over-drill this one with 15"augers.
MW-5 s&d: The presence of pea gravel in this location has hindered our ability to properly air-knife this location
without threatening to undermine the pavement. As a result ATC cannot destroy this dual completion well. Nor
can ATC install mushroom cap per SJ county code (i.e. 3 feet below surface). Therefore, ATC recommends
attempting to pull out the casings using a drill rig.
Please let me know if you find these variances acceptable.
Best regards,
Gabe Stivala
Gabe Stivala, P.G.1 Senior Geologist i ATC Associates Inc. i Sacramento
916-339-0477 ext. 11 1 (925) 223-7123 mobile
3600 Madison Avenuel Suite 64 1 N.
