U
ii
no problem. change ok.
I've ALWAYS thought it was easier and cheaper for shallow wells to o/bore rather than
pressure grout. I'm ok with the change.
there's always a chance on shallow o/bore wells that they can use the "popsicle"
method. call me if you need it explained.
one problem constantly pops up with o/bores....staying on the well casing the WHOLE
depth. Check with your driller to make sure the /
devise(s) they plan to use ensure the auger stays on, over, or destroys the PVC casing in
the procedure. Worn out stinger tips (shorter than 24") have proven to be problematic
and tend to drift off the casing. the lack of PVC, grout, bentonite; or sand in the cuttings
to the TD of the well most likely indicates that the augers have drifted off the casing and
is cutting a 'new' hole. Something I/the EHD does not approve of.
if an auger drifts off on one well, I will require a, 'modification' to the procedure to ensure it
doesn't happen on the next. I just came from a site where the driller was trying to drill to
70' bgs using a stinger tip only 10" long. he went off at 30' bgs and I stopped the drill.
The next day they came back with a 30" stinger tip and stayed on the next three wells to
TD with NO problems...
another way to ensure no-drift is to install AW rods INSIDE the PVC to TD before
drilling. Then, during the drill, there's no way an auger will drift off the casing since it
won't cut thru the rods..
unfortunately, this procedure typically wraps the PVC around the rod and has been
known to jam up inside the augers. some delays clearing the augers for the next well.
can be handled with extra flights at the site_
so, you get to figure out the best way for you to complete the task. I'm looking for results,
and results to me is that the "contents of the well have been removed"..you get to figure
out how...
long stingers or AW rods or option 3 (some other workable choice). I'm an 'ends' kinda
guy....not a "means" kinda guys.
I get to count the 'runs' and you get to figure out how to get the "hits"....
but no change in the permit for changing to o/bore from pressure grouting. it's not
uncommon for some wells scheduled for pg to get damaged or obstructed during the air
knife/clearing stage. Damaged or obstructed wells can not be pg'd. so these wells must
be o/bored.
mike
From: Gabe Stivala [mailto:gabe.stivala@atcassociates.com]
Sent: Monday, October 03, 2011 1:20 PM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Subject: RE: 2701 March Lane, Stockton Well Destructions
Hi Mike,
10/3/2011
