The concentrations of MTBE in the
water samples from off-site monitoring well MW91D have increased each quarter since January
2008. The concentrations of MTBE in the water samples from the on-site wells are all below the
secondary maximum contaminant level for public drinking water. The EHD recommends that
operation of the ozone remediation system be discontinued and the ground water be monitored
to determine if further on-site remediation is warranted. The EHD also recommends performing
batch extraction of water or more purging of water from MW9 to see if MTBE concentrations are
effected by this action and continuing negotiations with the off-site property owners to perform
investigation of the extent of the MTBE plume.
The State Water Resources Control Board passed Resolution 2009-0042 on May 19, 2009, that
includes a resolve to reduce quarterly monitoring at underground storage tank cleanup sites to
semi-annual or less frequent unless quarterly monitoring is warranted. Therefore, monitoring
wells MW1, MW2, MW3, MW4S, MW4D, MW9S, MW91, MW9D, MW10S, MW101 and MW10D
can be placed on a semi-annual monitoring frequency and MW5S, MW5D, MW6S, MW6D,
MW7S, MW7D, MW8S, MW81 and MW8D can be monitored on an annual frequency.
Analysis on the water samples can be reduced to TPH-GRO and MTBE as previously directed.
If you have any questions contact me at (209) 468-3449.
rllv 4a&
Z
Margaret Lagorio, REHS
Program Coordinator
cc: Lee Ignatowicz, Stantec, 3017 Kilgore Road, Ste 100, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
James Barton, CVRWQC13
Darrell Eppler, 2701 W.
