Therefore, weekly purging activities should continue at the site until further notice Dunng the January
weekly purge events, groundwater samples were collected from momtonng well MW-3 and the underground storage
tank(UST)cavity well before purging, after purging, and from the purged groundwater itself,as requested by
' PHS/EHD The sample collected from the purge water was used to calculate an approximate mass of MtBE removal
per event While imperfect, this method does provide an estimate of eonumunant mass removal The value of obtaining
the concentrations of MtBE in groundwater samples collected before and after purging, however, is doubtful and these
results are not used in mass removal calculation. Therefore, reinstate the practice of collecting a sample from the
purged groundwater during weekly purging to calculate an approximate measure of mass removal of MtBE Collecting
and analyzing pre-purge and post-purge samples will not be necessary
In summary, you are directed to tuidertake/commue the following tasks
1) Submit a CAP to PHS/EHD by October 1,2001
2) Continue weekly purging of MW-3 and the UST cavity well
3) Collect a sample of the purge water for laboratory analysis each week during weekly purge activities
If you have any questions regarding this directive, please call Dot Lofstrom at(209)468-3436
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Services
1 Dot L.ofstrom,KG
LOPISite Mitigation
cc Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Glenn Matteucci,Environmental Resolutions Inc
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
