6.0 - SITE SECURITY AND CONTROL <br /> 6.1 Work Zones <br /> Restricted Site areas will include, but not necessarily be limited to,the following zones: <br /> • Exclusion Zone or Hot Zone-any area where contamination is either known or likely to be <br /> present in concentrations that could pose a threat to human health and safety or that potential for <br /> harm to personnel exists because of the type of work activities being conducted.Appropriate PPE <br /> and warning signs should be utilized in this area. <br /> • Contamination Reduction Zone-any area where workers conduct personal and equipment <br /> decontamination. <br /> • Support Zone-areas where access is controlled,but the chance to encounter hazardous materials <br /> or conditions are minimal. <br /> Access to the work zones will be controlled by work zone delineators(e.g.traffic cones, flags,vehicles, <br /> DOT approved devices,temporary or permanent fencing, and/or safety barrier tape). Figure 6-1 is an <br /> example of a work zone.Additionally ATC employees should follow the requirements of the Employee <br /> Health and Safety Policy Manual,Policy No. 36,Work Zones in Traffic Areas for additional information. <br /> In the event on-site personnel must upgrade their personal protective equipment,the work zones may <br /> require substantial modification in order to provide for the safety of nearby personnel not associated with <br /> this work. Any upgrade level will be communicated by the Site Supervisor to the PM. The PM will then <br /> inform the RSC of this occurrence. <br /> Work Zone Level of Protection Required Protective Equipment(specify <br /> exact type,e.g.nitrile gloves) <br /> Exclusion Zone D Respirator: None needed <br /> Filters/Cartridges: None needed <br /> Boots: Safety toe I75,C75,slip <br /> resistant sole <br /> Inner Gloves: Cut Resistant Level I1 per P66 <br /> Guidelines <br /> Outer Gloves: Nitrile <br /> Protective Coverall: At discretion of employee <br /> Hard Hat: Yes <br /> Eye Protection: Safety glasses,clear <br /> Other: Hearing protection <br /> HASP Level III <br /> Rev.—(September 17,2012) <br /> 6-1 <br />
