7.2 Equipment Decontamination The subcontractor will decontaminate field equipment according to the work plan. This may include manual removal of gross contamination with shovels or other tools,followed by a high-pressure,hot water sprayer. Because decontamination at the high-pressure,hot water station poses the possibility of a splash and/or mist inhalation hazard,the task should be performed using Level D personal protective equipment at a minimum. Field tool including split-barrel soil samplers,brass liners,and sample knives and trowels will be decontaminated. The field tools may be scrubbed visually clean using a detergent solution (Alconox/Liquinox)with water and a stiff, long-bristled scrub brush. Following the solution scrubbing, the tools may be rinsed with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Clothing,tools,buckets,brushes, and all other equipment that is contaminated must be properly packaged and stored on the Site until disposal arrangements are finalized. Clothing not completely decontaminated on-site should be secured in plastic bags before being removed from the Site.
