volatile halocarbons (EPA 8010) and 17 CCR metals (CAM 17) .
3.3 Logging
Auger returns and soil from the second brass tube were screened for
the presence of organic vapors using a PID. The soil was then
described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System
(see Boring Logs) . All borings were backfilled using concrete-
bentonite slurry for the entire depth.
' 4.0 FINDINGS
4.1 Stratigraphy
The borings penetrated brown to dark brown, silty sands and sandy
' silts. Silty clay was encountered in the upper ten feet on the
southern portion of the property. A slight hydrocarbon odor was
observed in soil sample B5-10 (10 foot depth) . However, no volatile
organic vapors were detected by the PID in any of the samples.
' 4.2 Groundwater
M Depth to groundwater at the site is currently 70 to 75 feet.
However, seasonal high groundwater (spring 1986) was estimated to
be at depth of approximately 40 feet (San Joaquin County Flood
Control Map) . Groundwater was not encountered during this
assessment.
During drilling, a sewage odor was noted in Boring #4 at depths
' between 25 and 35 feet. Perched water was also noted between 25 and
30 feet. Information obtained from the San Joaquin Local Health
District indicates that a septic pit may have been located in the
' area of Boring #4 . The presence of an abandoned septic pit may
account for the sewage odor and perched water.
4.3 Laboratory Results
' TPH as diesel; TPH as motor oil; and benzene, toluene and
ethylbenzene were not detected in any of the soil samples. TPH as
' gasoline was detected in sample B7-10 at 12 mg/kg (ppm) and xylenes
were detected in sample 89-10 at 0. 056 ppm. No TPH or xylenes were
detected in any other soil sample. The analytical results are
summarized in Table 3 . The laboratory report and chain of custody
are attached in Appendix A.
The stockpiled soil contained no detectable concentrations of TPH
as gasoline or BTE&X. TPH as diesel was present in the stockpiled
soil at 28 ppm. Of the halogenated volatile organic compounds
(HVOC's) only Dichloromethane was detected (0. 0053 ppm) . None of
the CAM 17 metals exceeded the Title 22 Total Threshold Limit
Concentrations (TTLC) . The laboratory report and chain of custody
' 3
