The
results of the subsurface investigations and excavation were discussed at the March 230 1993 meeting of the
PHS/EHD Technical Review Committee (TRC). PHS/EHD has summarized the comments of the TRC
for your consideration.
The report described results of the November 1993 investigation which was designed to determine the
extent of residual soil contamination. Also, associated with the December 1993 tank removal activities,
soil samples were collected in March 1994 in the area of the former underground storage tank piping. The
TRC recommends that all soil samples which evidence soil contamination be integrated and the
environmental fate of residual contaminants modeled, to determine if the contaminants may pose a future
threat to groundwater. The model used must be explicitly presented and assumptions clearly identified.
The remaining stockpiled soil should be properly characterized and disposed.
A closure summary report, as outlined in the "Addendum to the Tri-Regional Recommendations,
Appendix A" should be prepared and submitted to PHD/EHD for closure consideration.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Meays, Senior REHS, at (209) 468-0337.
Earnest M.
