• The Contents of each Aerosol container will be screened to verify compatibility with the <br />standard Aerosol Waste Stream (UN1950 Aerosols, 2.1 PGII): <br />o To ensure compatibility, HHW Staff are instructed to get supervisor approval before <br />placing any PROFESSIONAL OR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY products (Pesticides, Oven <br />Cleaners or Janitorial Products) into the standard Aerosol waste stream container. If <br />the supervisor is not available, the HHW Staff will place the Aerosol Product on the <br />Lab Pack Table to be analyzed for compatibility when a supervisor is available. <br />(compatibility can be determined by the MSDS for that particular product) <br />• Questionable brands to look for are <br />o Zep <br />o Amway <br />o Kaboom <br />o ChemTronics <br />o GenTrol <br />o Evsco Pharmaceutical <br />• Industrial and Professional Products can easily be identified by certain "site words' found on <br />the label. Some examples are: <br />o MSDS <br />o NIOSH <br />o Professional or Industrial Use <br />o OSHA <br />o Not for Re -Sale <br />o PPE <br />• Other ways of identifying potentially incompatible aerosols would be: <br />o Military Markings <br />o GHS (Globally Harmonized System) symbols for Hazardous and Dangerous Materials. <br />o DOT Hazardous Materials/Waste Identification Labels (Diamonds) <br />Recycling or Incineration: Aerosol products that are not in reusable condition shall be sorted and <br />packaged appropriately and sent for recycling or incineration.* <br />*§ 173.306(k), authorizes the highway transport of aerosol containers conforming to 49 CFR § 173.306 not to exceed 500 kg (1,100 <br />pounds) when transported for the purpose of recycling or disposal. <br />
