Field investigations were performed on 23 and 24
January 1992, and laboratory analyses of the samples collected
during the field work were received in our office on 3 February
1992. This report summarizes the work performed and the results
that were obtained.
DEPTH TO GROUNDWATER
According to the 1990 Map of Depth to Groundwater for the area,
preprared by the San Joaquin County Department of Public Works,
Flood Control Section, groundwater is presently more than 60 ft
below grade. According to the California Department o- .Water
Resources, as quoted in the Escalon Times, Wednesday, February 12,
on page A—i, groundwater levels have dropped approximately 9 ft
since 1988. Geological Audit attempted to confirm this information
with Mr. Harold Roberson of the Escalon Department of Public Works,
but was unable to reach him prior to completing this report.
INSTALLATION OF SOIL BORINGS
West Hazmat Drilling Company of Hayward, California drilled two
shallow soil borings from the concrete sidewalk on the north side
of the restroom/heating oil vault (Figure 2) . Because of limited
access and overhead clearance, a small, trailer-mounted Soilmaster
50 drilling rig was used. The borings were inclined at an angle of
40 degrees (50 degrees from horizontal) so as to penetrate the soil
directly beneath the vault. Boring SB-1 was drilled to a depth of
30 ft (23 ft true vertical depth) and bottomed 22.9 ft from the
surface location, beneath the south wall of the vault. Boring SB-2
---.. _...__.. -.......was -drilled to.--a-depth._of.._35_-_ft.__(26.8 ft-.true__ver tical-.._depth) and
bottomed 26.8 ft from the surface location, about 8 ft south of the
vault. The borings could not be oriented perpendicular to the vault
as shown in the workplan because the drill rig could not be tilted
straight back without striking immovable structures behind it.
Hence, the rig was oriented at an angle to the vault and the
v -cross pattern as shown in Figure 2.
borings were drilled in a Criss
ErMronmenlal Services•Hydregeol09Y•Geotechnical Services
