Farmer Unocal Service Station/0187
October 9, 1995
Well Development
Groundwater monitoring wells U-4 through U-7 were developed on July 24, and well U-8
was developed on July 31, 1995. Development was performed by Gettler-Ryan Inc (G-R)
of Dublin, California Well development procedures are presented in Appendix A Well
development field data sheets are presented in Appendix C Water generated during
development procedures was discharged to properly labelled drums and which were stored
at the site pending disposal
Well Monitoring and Sampling
Newly installed groundwater monitoring wells U-4 through U-8 were monitored and
sampled by G-R on July 31, 1995 Depth to groundwater was measured and the wells
checked for the presence of floating product prior to purging and sampling Floating
product was not present in any of the wells These groundwater data are summarized in
Table 1 Groundwater monitoring and sampling procedures are presented in Appendix A
Groundwater removed during well purging was discharged to properly labelled drums and
stored at the site pending disposal MPDS will incorporate the newly installed groundwater
monitoring wells U-4 through U-8 into the quarterly monitoring and sampling program
i beginning with the fourth quarter 1995
Wellhead Survey
Following installation of the wells, the casing elevations were surveyed by Virgil Chavez
Land Surveying of Vallejo, California (license #6323) Top of casing and vault box
elevations were measured relative to MSL, and the horizontal locations of the wells
measured Well casing elevations are included on Table 1 These data have been
forwarded to MPDS for inclusion in their Quarterly Monitoring Reports A copy of the
surveyor's report is included in Appendix D
RESULTS OF SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
Soil Conditions
Soil encountered beneath the site consists predominantly of clay to approximately 40 feet
bgs Discontinuous strata of sand (approximately four to 12 feet thick) were encountered
in all borings to approximately 22 feet bgs, except in well borings U-O and U-7 The clay
is underlain by sand from approximately 40 feet bgs to the total depth explored of
approximately 55 feet bgs This sandy unit was not encountered in boring U-6
482704-3 5
