MENDOCINO AVENUE, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Assessor's parcel number: 113-140-02
County of San Joaquin Site Code: R0732
INTRODUCTION
Environmental Science Associates (ESA) has developed this workplan for the purpose of
installing five soil borings, collecting one grab groundwater sample, and installing four
groundwater monitoring wells in the area of the former underground storage tank (UST) at 1081
W. Mendocino Avenue, Stockton, California (referred to herein as the "site"). The purpose of
groundwater monitoring well installation is to confirm anticipated regional groundwater gradient
+.• direction and further define the extent of methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)in groundwater.
The scope of work presented in this workplan was discussed with the San Joaquin County
%W Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) and the Sacramento Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board (RWQCB) in a telephone conference on May 16, 2001. A Site Health & Safety
Plan prepared for the field portion of this project is included at the end of this document as
Attachment A.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The site is the former location of the University of the Pacific (UOP)Physical Plant on the north
side of Mendocino Avenue within the UOP campus(Figure 1). UOP moved its main campus to
its present location in Stockton,California in approximately 1924. The former Physical Plant
building,Central Receiving Building, and Electric Shop located south, southeast and southwest of
r the site have been remodeled for use as classroom buildings. UOP recently removed a Custodial
Warehouse and a shed formerly located east of the site.
As part of current renovations and construction of new facilities,UOP removed a 4,400 gallon
unleaded gasoline UST on April 7,2000, under permits issued by SJCEHD (#022179)and the
City of Stockton Fire Department(#00-91). The former UST location is now beneath a paved
s.. staff and student parking lot(Figure 2).
The soil sampling and analysis completed when the UST was removed identified concentrations
of MTBE in the subsurface soil. Upon obtaining soil sample results following the UST removal,
Environmental Science Associates 1 University of the Pacific
September 25.2001 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Workplan
200252
