swe NW001
06 March 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0185
Following sample collection, the exposed ends of the Ieading or other selected sleeve will be labeled
with the boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials;the appropriately sealed and labeled
samples will be placed under ice in a chilled container and will be transported under chain-of-
custody to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis of the chemicals listed in Section 2.4.L.The soil
in the two remaining sleeves will be visually classified by AGE personnel in accordance with the
USCS and field-screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM equipped
with a PID (Thermo Environmental 580, 10.0eV [or equivalent] and calibrated to isobutylene).
3.4. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
Grab ground water samples will be collected from each off-site direct-push soil boring at
approximately 23 to 25 feet bsg(first encountered ground water)and the ground water samples will
1 be collected from the on-site direct-push soil boring at approximately 40, 50 and 60 feet bsg(deep
ground water). The samples will be collected utilizing a Geoprobe water sampling assembly fitted
with a pre-cleaned one-inch diameter 0.01-inch slotted temporary well screen. The ground water
sample will be extracted by lowering a Teflon hose equipped with a ball-valve through the hollow
center of the push rods into the screen section.
Each ground water sample will be transferred into three laboratory-supplied,40-milliliter volatile
organic analysis vials without sample preservative and one I-liter amber glass container without
sample preservative. Care will be taken to ensure that visible air bubbles are not present in the vials
after filling and capping. Grab ground water sample containers will be labeled with each well
designation,date,time,and sampler's initials.After collection,the samples will be properly labeled,
placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to DHS-certified laboratory for
analysis of constituents discussed in Section 2.4.1..
Laboratory reports for the ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory QA/QC reports, and
sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with findings and
recommendations.
3.5. DESTRUCTION OF WELL MW-5
Monitoring well MW-5 was lost during industrial activities at the site and re-located on 08 August
2006 in badly damaged and non-reparable condition. The original total depth of monitoring well
MW-5 was 30 feet bsg. Monitoring well MW-5 will be properly destroyed by 100% over-drilling
using a CME-75HT drill rig with 8.25-inch hollow stem augers.Upon reaching the total depth of 30
feet bsg,the borehole will be filled to within one foot of the ground surface with a cement grout. The
grout mixture will consist of Type 1111 portland neat cement and not more than 6 gallons of water per
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
