1 <br /> ' 20 December 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0185 <br /> Page 2 of 7 <br /> ' 2 2 GROUND WATER MONITORING PROCEDURES <br /> On 17 September 2002, quarterly ground water monitoring activities were conducted on wells <br /> ' MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3, well MW-4 was not sampled due to the presence of free product <br /> ' 2 2 1 Well Monitoring and Evacuation <br /> The water level in each monitoring well was measured relative to the tops of the well casings using <br /> a Solinst water level meter The depths to ground water are provided in Table 1, the ground water <br /> elevations and gradient were determined from this data <br /> ' After gauging the depth to ground water,a dedicated,disposable bailer was used to purge monitoring <br /> wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3, a dedicated one-inch suction pipe was used by American Valley <br /> Waste Oil (AVWO)to vacuum extracted(purge) ground water and free product from well MW-4 <br /> ' Between 3 5 and 4 5 gallons of ground water were removed from <br /> g �' wells MW-I through MW-3 <br /> ' • (minimum of three casing-volumes per well), approximately 200 gallons of ground water and free <br /> product was vacuum extracted from well MW-4 The ground water parameters of temperature,pH <br /> and conductivity were measured at regular intervals at wells MW-1 through MW-3 using an Oakton <br /> ' water analyzer(Appendix B), ground water parameters were not measured at well MW-4 Purged <br /> water was stored on-site in 55-gallon Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved drums <br /> ' 2 2 2 Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples <br />' Ground water samples were collected from purged wells MW-1 through MW-3 using the dedicated, <br /> disposable-plastic bailers,ground water samples were not collected from well MW-4 because of the <br /> continued presence of free product Each water sample was transferred into three 40-m1 volatile <br />' organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml 18% HCl as a sample preservative and one 1-liter <br /> amber bottle without preservative The samples were then labeled and placed in a chilled container <br /> for transport under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical,Inc (MAT),a Cali fornia Department <br />' of Health Services (DHS)-certified analytical laboratory <br /> All water samples were analyzed for <br />' - - Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel-(TPH-g and TPH-d) in T <br /> accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, <br />' Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylene (BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl ether <br /> (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020, and <br />' Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc <br /> 1 <br />
