GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> i <br /> Grab ground water samples were collected from probe borings P1 and P4 using a Geoprobe water <br /> jt sampling assembly, which was extended into ground water, then pulled back to expose a water <br /> sampler screen interval. Ground water was allowed to enter the sampler, and samples were retrieved <br /> using a modified tygon tubing bailer. <br /> a, <br /> After sample retrieval, the sampler was disassembled and cleaned. New PVC tubing was used for <br /> each sample. Samples were collected in 40-ml EPA vials containing hydrochloric acid as a <br /> preservative, and in 1-liter amber bottles. The samples were labeled, placed in a chilled container <br /> and transported under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis. <br />`t <br /> 3.1.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS <br /> Selected soil and ground water samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified <br /> as diesel (TPH-d) and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTE&X). <br /> Soil samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m and 8020; ground water <br /> samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m and 602. <br /> ' 3.2. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br /> 3.2.1. DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> On 06 and 07 June 1996,four soil borings were drilled at the site. Boring B1 (MW-1) was advanced <br /> ' on the northern side of the Highway 99 Frontage Road, in the City of Ripon Right-of-Way; boring <br /> B2 (MW-2) was advanced south of the former UST excavation; boring B3 (MW-3) was established <br /> west of the former UST excavation; and boring B4 (MW-4) was advanced on the southwest corner <br /> of the former UST excavation. <br /> ' All drilling was performed using a truck-mounted CME 75-HT drill rig equipped with continuous <br /> flight, hollow-stem augers. The drill rig and two-man crew were supplied by Soil Exploration <br /> Services (SES) of Benicia, California. The locations of the borings are shown on Figure 2. . <br /> Samples were collected in each boring using a split tube sampler loaded with three clean,2 by 6-inch <br /> brass sleeves. A 140-pound hammer was used to advance the sampler 18 inches; the number of <br /> blows required to advance the sampler in 6-inch increments was recorded on the boring logs. All <br /> sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed twice with water prior to each <br /> sampling run. <br /> 41 <br /> s' <br /> J <br />
