y
' . 21 March 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0432
3.0: FINDINGS
The soil lithology descriptions were determined from soil samples collected and the contaminant
' impact to soil and ground water was assessed from the laboratory data.
3.L HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
A total of eleven soil samples were analyzed for TPH-g,TPH-d,BTEX, and fuel additives including
' MTBE in'accordance with the techniques previously presented.
• TPH-g, TPH-d were not detected in the soil samples analyzed.
' 6 Xylene was detected at 0.014 milligram per kilogram(mg/kg) in soil sample B7-50. .
• The oxygenated fuel additive MTBE was detected in two of the soil samples analyzed by-
EPA
yEPA Method 8020 and was detected in four soil samples analyzed by EPA 8260.
• The detected MTBE concentrations ranged from 5.1 micrograms per kilogram (,ug/kg) to 52
µglkg. The highest detected MTBE concentration was from soil collected at 30 feet-bsg.in
f the area of well MW-1, the location of,highest dissolved MTBE.
' Laboratory results of soil samples analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel additives are
summarized in Tables 1 and 2. The laboratory reports(MAI Laboratory ID 50369 to 50379), quality
' assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reports and chains-of-custody are included in Appendix B.
1 3.2. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED GROUND WATER
' The grab ground water samples were analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX, and fuel additives in J
accordance with techniques previously presented.
' & TPH-g, TPH-d and BTEX compounds were not detected in the grab ground water sample's.
• MTBE was detected in one of the ground water samples analyzed. MTBE was'detected in
grab water sample from boring B8 collected from 50 feet bsg at 29 micrograms per liter
' (ug/l) by EPA Method 8260 and at 30µg11 by EPA Method 8020.
' Analytical, results, from ground water samples are summarized in Table 3. The laboratory reports
(MAI Laboratory ID 50366 to 50368), QA/QC reports and chain-of-custody forms are included in
Appendix B.
