00
Mr. Ron Rowe
Page 3
TPHg content in the water sample from HPI, however. This is inconsistent with the chemical
signature of the potential source. It is also notable that no odors or positive FID readings
occurred in boring HP 1. It may be that the TPHg was accidently introduced into the sample in
the field or the laboratory.
The source of MTBE in the groundwater in MW 1 is not believed to be from the 647 East
Miner site. We suspect the MTBE results from the release at the 601 East Miner site, although
recent analytical data and groundwater flow direction do not provide conclusive evidence of
this. Based on the age of the USTs (removed in 1987) and their purported use for waste oil
storage it is highly unlikely that any MTBE was ever present. If the source of MTBE
contamination in the groundwater was the USTs, we would have expected to detect MTBE in
the water sample from boring HP4, located directly downgradient of the former USTs.
The magnitude of MTBE present in the groundwater does not justify additional investigation at
i
the site. Ground Zero recommends that the site be closed with no further action required.
i
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Ground Zero at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Grou ysis, Inc.
arvey, 'tE G
Staff logist cr` \
J U)1
r GREGORY P.
STAHL
Gregory P.
