Low concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples from MW-3, MW-4
and VW-1 No hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples from MW-2 Eight additional soil
bonngs were drilled in March 1994 Seven of the eight soil borings were drilled off-site, south and
southwest of the site The data indicated that impacted soil extends approximately 180 to 200 feet
off-site to the southwest, however, most of the off-site impacted soil contains very low concentrations
of petroleum hydrocarbons
FREE-PRODUCT IN GROUND WATER
It is our understanding that prior to January 1995, groundwater samples from the site had been
collected on three occasions During each sampling event, free hydrocarbon product was detected
in MW-1, therefore, no samples were collected Free hydrocarbon product was encountered in
MW-1 and MW-4
AQUIFER TESTING AND ANALYSIS
A pump test was performed at the site by SEACOR Groundwater was extracted from MW-1 and
drawdown was measured in three surrounding wells The test duration was approximately 24 hours
SEACOR concluded in the PAR that drawdown data collected during the pump test indicated that
the pumping from MW-1 has little influence at the site Therefore, a pump and treat system of
ground water remediation would likely be ineffective at the site Complete pump test data was
included in the PAR
SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION TEST
On 10 June 1994 a soil vapor extraction test was conducted at the site A vacuum was applied to an
extraction well (VW-1) and measurements of flow rate and vacuum were collected from three
temporary observation wells(VW-2,VW-3 and VW-4) However,a vacuum could not be achieved
on VW-1, so the internal combustion (IC) unit was connected to one of the observation wells It
appears that VW-1 may have been placed too close to the western UST excavation, which was
backfilled with pea gravel, and "short circuited" the attempt to draw a significant vacuum Despite
the short circuiting of VW-1,the test concluded that vapor extraction would be a viable remediation
alternative for impacted soil at the site The data collected during the pilot test indicated that
sufficient flow and hydrocarbon recovery rates can be achieved at the site
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT OF HYDROCARBON IMPACTED SOIL AND
REMEDIATION INSTALLATION
From 03 to 05 Tanuary1995, a total of five soil borings were drilled at the site The bonngs P-1,P-2
and P-3 were di filled to depths of 27 feet Boring P-4 was drilled at an angle of approximately 30°
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc
