I <br /> 1 Site Background Information Chapin Brothers Investements, Inc <br /> Page 7of12 <br /> i1 <br /> period Operation of the unit was attempted at 200 scfm, the maximum operational rate of the unit, <br /> i ' however the unit was noted to overheat and automatically shut off apparently to prevent the catalyst <br /> beds from deteriorating <br /> An induced vacuum(negative pressure)of approximately 25 to 45 inches of water was measured in <br /> the piping between the blower and extraction wells The radius of influence at the well-heads was <br /> noted to range from 0 35 inches of water at well MW-4 to 3 8 Inches of water at ASO-3 <br /> Three sets of extracted soil gas samples were analyzed for TPH-g,BTEX and MTBE TPH-g was <br /> detected in the 09 April, 12 May and 18 June 1997 samples collected from Influent vapor stream at <br /> ' concentrations of 1,800 micrograms per liter µg11, 8,900 µg/1 and 5,600 µg/l,respectively BTEX <br /> compounds were detected at concentrations as high as 52 µg/1 Petroleum hydrocarbons were <br /> detected at 100 µg/1 the sample collected from the effluent stream on 18 June 1997 <br /> I 1 <br /> ' ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES - IAS/SVE STARTUP <br /> j TPH-g was detected In the water samples from wells MW-1, MW-3, MW-4 and MW-5 at <br /> concentrations of 99,000 micrograms per liter µg/1, 6,900 µg/l, 100,000 µg/1 and 73 µg/1, <br /> . respectively Benzene was detected in wells MW-1,MW-3 and MW-4 at concentrations of 19,000 <br /> µg/1, 97 µg/1 and 15,000 µg/1, respectively Benzene was not detected in wells MW-2, MW-5 and <br /> ' MW-6 Other BTEX compounds were detected in these wells at concentrations as high as 18,000 <br /> µg/1(toluene,MW-4) Ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in MW-3 at concentrations of 230 <br /> µg/1 for each compound No petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in the samples collected from <br /> ' wells MW-2 and MW-6, the newly installed down-gradient well <br /> ' MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br /> On 01 April 1998, soil boring MW-7 was advanced on the property directly east of the site The <br /> boring location is illustrated on Figure 2 The soil boring was advanced to a depth of 25 feet bsg <br /> Boring MW-7 was completed as a ground water monitoring well The well was completed using 2- <br /> inch diameter schedule 40 PVC casing with 0 02-inch slotted screen from approximately 5 to 25 feet <br /> ' bsg A filter pack was installed using#2 Lonestar sand from 4 to 25 feet Bentonite chips were used <br /> to make a two-foot plug and the remaining annular space was backfilled to the surface with portland <br /> cement A traffic-rated well box(8-mch diameter)was installed over each well,in accordance with <br /> ' County regulations <br /> 1 Samples were collected at five-foot intervals,with samples were preserved by covering both ends <br /> of the brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping and sealing with tape TPH-g, BTE&X and <br /> oxygenated compounds were not detected in soil samples collected from the location ofwell MW-7 <br /> ' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
