` y
Mr Russell F Chapin, Sr
May 15, 1995
Page 2
• Soil samples taken during tank removal indicated that significant contamination was
present below the tanks
• Four soil borings were drilled onsite and offsite to the north and west and converted into
one 4-in vapor extraction well and three 2-in groundwater monitoring wells by SEACOR,
this was followed by drilling 8 soil borings, 7 of which were located offsite to the west
and west-southwest Contamination was found to extend offsite to the west-southwest up
to 200 ft, although most offsite contamination was at very low levels
• An aquifer test and a vapor extraction test were performed by SEACOR, while the data
were of poor quality, it was fudged that groundwater extraction was not feasible and that
soil vapor extraction was likely to be feasible
• Geological Audit Services drilled five soil bonngs and constructed one dually completed
4-in vapor extraction well/2-in air sparging observation well, one 2-in air sparging
observation well, one dually completed 2-in vapor extraction well /2-in air sparging well,
one 4-m vapor extraction well, and one air sparging well, and performed an air
sparging/vapor extraction feasibility test During the test, vacuums of 22 to 40 ins H2O
resulted in observed vacuums up to 90 ft away from the extraction well, an estimated
radius of influence of 37 ft was presented
SCOPE OF WORK
The Scope of Work requested includes the following tasks, as delineated in the Final
Remedial Plan for the site
a Installing one 40-ft air sparging well, trenching to install piping , installing a Vapor
Extraction/In Situ Air Sparging System
• Rental (or lease, or purchase) of an internal combustion engine/ blower for the
remediation system
Y Monitoring the system daily for the first two weeks, weekly for one year, and monthly
collection and analysis of air samples
• Progress soil sampling at 6-month intervals
• Operation and maintenance
4658-P2
LUSH GEOSCIENCES
