vt sh
Associatcs, [n,:, " !„-J 07
.. - . V _-.
Fnvironmental Scientists and Engineers
July 27, 1993
Mr. Harlin Knoll, REHS
San Joaquin Public Health Services
445 N. San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Tank Removal Work Plan
1766 Monte Diablo Avenue
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
Walsh & Associates, Inc. (W & A) is pleased to present this work plan for the removal of five
underground storage tanks, soil sampling and laboratory analyses, and options for the disposition
of soil overburden generated by the excavation work. Excavation work and tank removal will
be performed by Jim Thorpe Oil of Stockton, California. The tanks will be unearthed on Monday
the 2nd day of August, followed by actual removal from the ground on August 4, 1993 at
approximately 9:30 a.m. A registered geologist from our office will be present to assist with the
tank pull and to collect soil samples from beneath the tanks.
W & A proposes to collect two soil samples from beneath each of two 8,000-gal gasoline tanks
and two 4,000-gal gasoline tanks, and one sample from beneath a 550-gal waste oil tank for a
total of n;r,e coil samples. Samples collected from beneath the gasoline tanks will bP ana._lyred
for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and for the associated volatile constituents
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers (13TEX). The laboratory analyses will
be performed using EPA Methods 8015 (modified)/5030 and EPA Method 8020, respectively.
The sample collected from beneath the waste oil tank will be analyzed for Total Oil and Grease
(TOG) using Standard Method 5520. The analyses will be performed by Matrix Environmental
Laboratories of Rancho Cordova, California. Matrix is certified by the State of California for
these analyses. All samples will be collected in situ, sealed, placed in iced storage, and
transported directly to the environmental laboratory.
W & A recommends that the tank excavations be backfilled as soon as possible following the
tank removal operations. Execution of this recommendation will reduce the liability of personal
injury and remove the potential health threat concerning the release of volatile hydrocarbons to
West Coast Division:
1734 34th Street .
