Mr Jim Woodward
January 27, 1995
Page 2
All groundwater samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-G), diesel fuel (TPH-D), motor oil (TPH-MO), and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylene isomers (BTEX) using U S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 8015
Modified and 8020
Results
The groundwater flow direction on November 16 and 30, 1994, was to the southwest Water-
level data are shown in Table 1 Groundwater flow directions and gradients are shown in
Table 2 The groundwater flow direction for November 16, 1994, is shown on Figure 1, and
the groundwater flow direction for November 30 is shown on Figure 2
Analytical results of the groundwater samples for this and previous quarters are summarized
in Table 3 The November 16, 1994, analytical results are shown on Figure 3 Analytical
laboratory data sheets are included in Exhibit A Analytical laboratory results identified
BTEX compounds in the three groundwater samples at concentrations ranging from 15
micrograms per liter (µg11) to 2 4 µg11 of benzene, 6 5 to 11 gg/l of toluene, and 16 to 2 4 µg11
of ethylbenzene, and 9 4 to 14 µg/l of xylenes TPH-G was identified in the groundwater
• samples collected from Wells MW-1 and MW-2 at concentrations of 56 µg11 and 65 µg/l,
respectively TPH-D and TPH-MO were not identified in the groundwater samples collected
from the three wells, above their respective analytical method reporting limits
Discussion
This is the first quarter in which TPH-G has been identified in the groundwater samples
collected from the on-site wells This is also the first quarter in which BTEX compounds
have been identified in the groundwater samples collected from Well MW-2 The
concentrations at which TPH-G and BTEX have been identified are relatively low The
presence of xylene in the groundwater beneath the Kent's Oil site has been observed
historically Since gasoline products have not been stored at this site in the past, we believe
that an off-site source may exist
Draft Report—Use or disclosure of data contained on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning
of this docutnent
