Borehole Drilling, Sheldon Oil Company
Stockton, California
!I
Dear Mr. Fratto:
Sheldon Oil Company (Sheldon) authorized Brown and Caldwell (BC) to drill exploratory
boreholes at the Sheldon Stockton facility located at Miner Street and Highway 99, Stockton,
California (site). All necessary permits and permission were obtained from the County.
The objective of this work was to define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum f
hydrocarbons in soil beneath the site. Petroleum hydrocarbons were found in soil beneath the
site during recent excavation activities. y
Presented below are discussions on field events at the site, site geology and hydrogeology,
analytical results, and conclusions.
FIELD EVENTS
f
Drilling and Sampling
Between the dates of May 11 and 14, 1993, BC personnel supervised the drilling and
sampling of five soil borings (TW 1 - TW4, and SB 10). The borehole locations are shown on ;
Figure 1. After the first borehole was drilled, it became apparent that 14 boreholes would not
(' be needed and that it would take longer and cost more than had been allocated. Three wells
f were drilled by Wayne Drilling of Lincoln, California, and two were drilled by Spectrum
A Drilling of Stockton. Both companies used truck-mounted hollow-stem auger drilling rigs
equipped with 6- and 8-inch diameter bits and drill stems. Cuttings generated during the
drilling were transported and added to an adjacent biocell. The complete borehole logs are
h
;
attached as Appendix A.
7603CO RRES P J603-0 9.L-1
. l
_J
