i
Mr. Bob Fratto
July 27, 1993
Page 3
Water level measurements were taken in each well by lowering an electric probe into the well
I, casing. Due to the temporary nature of the well casing, water level measurements are reliable
estimates but not precise. The measurements are used to estimate groundwater flow direction
„ and hydraulic gradient. Table I summarizes water level measurements.
Table 1. An j
arbitrary elevation of 100 feet above mean sea level was used as the reference elevation.
Distances between wells and the survey reference point could not be obtained due to the open
excavation separating them. Therefore, distances between borings are estimated based on
field observations.
Groundwater Sampling
f
After water level measurements were collected and relative elevations were sighted,
groundwater samples were collected from each temporary well. A disposable bailer was
I lowered into the casing to collect the groundwater. The groundwater was immediately
transferred from the bailer to laboratory cleaned containers. All analytical samples were
j placed on ice in cool ice chests until delivered to the laboratory. Each groundwater sample
was analyzed for BTEX using EPA Method 602/Purge-and-Trap, TPH as gasoline using EPA
a Method Modified 8015/Purge-and-Trap, and TPH as diesel and motor oil using EPA Method
a Modified 8015/Extraction.
II
Well Abandonment
After groundwater samples were collected from each temporary well, the PVC casings were
pulled from the boreholes. The borehole was then backfilled to the surface with neat cement,
using tremie hose to ensure complete filling.
j Brown and Caldwell
Consu i t a n t s 76031CORRES P7603-0I.L-!
I5
Ej t
