-
GOLDEN GRAIN COMPANY 39
December 21, 1989
202/799-5045.06
5. Requires use of another technology to remediate ground-
water.
f. Extensive site restoration required.
7. Moderate to high cost.
Soil excavation is not viable at this site because the
hydrocarbons in soil underlying the building and streets will not
be addressed by this method. Since the area under the building
will require other treatment methods (such as vapor extraction
and groundwater extraction) , it will be more effective to design
one integrated system to treat all the soil and groundwater at
the site.
The decision to treat the soils or take them directly to a
r
landfill would be contingent on the volume of soil and the
hydrocarbon concentration levels present in the excavated soil.
5.3.1. Disposal of Excavated Soil
If soil is excavated, it may require off-site disposal at a
Class I (if hydrocarbon concentrations are greater than 1,000
ppm) , Class II (concentrations between 100 and 1,000 ppm) , or
Class III (concentrations less than 100 ppm) san'tary landfill.
Soil Disposal Advantages:
1. Disposal removes soil from the site quickly.
`- GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY,INC.
