Depth of seals in all wells is reported to be greater <br /> than 100 feet (according to the City of Manteca, Department of <br /> Public Works) . <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Manteca Bean Facility is an inactive warehouse located <br /> within an ,industrial-commercial section of southern Manteca. The <br /> 1 .5 miles northwest of the junction of <br /> site is approximately <br /> California Highways 99 anC. 120 (Figure 1) . The warehouse, 229 <br /> previously szrviced by a 700-gg allon <br /> Moffat Street in Manteca, was P alar leaded <br /> underground storage tank ([1ST) , which contained reg resent on <br /> gasoline. This was the only fuel tank knnownpresene bepresent <br /> the <br /> t <br /> site, {?they underground fuel tanks may <br /> vicinity. It is within the scope of this investigation to <br /> identify any other sources contributing to the identified <br /> contamination. <br /> SCS initiated site work by exhuming the tank and associated <br /> on November 17, 1986 (Appendix Z) . Subsequent <br /> plumbing <br /> nalyses of soil samples taken from the tank pit <br /> laboratory a <br /> indicated a hydrocarbon release had occurred within fhoervicinity <br /> of the tank pit. on the basis of this information,we e' installed in <br /> monitoring wells (MV-11 MW-2. MW-3, and MW-4) <br /> pi <br /> on February 4 and <br /> _ borings az•ound and within the former tank P from 25 to <br /> 5, 1987 . These wells were installed to depths ranging la er <br /> 30 feet and terminated in a moist to saturated silty-clay y <br /> (Appendix II) . <br /> Soil saw Xles taken during the drilling of the wells were <br /> tol <br /> analyzed for total hydrocarbons, benzene, uene, <br /> organic lead (Appendix v) .
