At the request of the San Joaquin
Environmental Health Division, the soil and water samples Were
tested for the following parameters:
s Total hydrocarbons by EPA 8015 modified
(Anametrir. test Fel-. 5020) , EPA 5010 (EDB) ,
4 Benzene
® 'Toluene
• Xylenes (BTX)
• organic lead
'den, soil samples were tested for the parameters above. The
concentrations of chemical compounds are reported in Appendix
C. The highest concentrations of fuels in soils were found in
'`+ MW-4, which is the boring located in the tank removal area.
The concentrations increase with depth in Xli-4 except for the
lead concentration. Benzene was found at a concentration of
62.0 ug/gm (ppm) at 11-11„5 feet to 95.0 ug/gm (ppm) at 20.5--21
feet. Toluene range from 120.0 ug/gm (ppm) at 11-11.5 feet to
130.0 ug/gm (ppm) at 7:.5-21 feet. Total xylenes ranged from
46.0 ug/gm (ppm) at l:1-11.5 feet to 65.0 ug/gm (ppm) at 20.5-21
feet. Total hydroca.-bons ranged from 850. 0 ug/gm (ppm) at 11-
11.5 feet to 1400.0 .g/gm (ppm) at 20.5-21 feet. Ethylene
Dibromide (EDL) concentrations ranged from 0.02 ug/gm (ppm) at
11-11.5 feet to 2. 10 ug/gm (ppm) at 20.5-21 feet. The other
three borings also contained organic compounds in the soil
above the detection limits as shown in Appendix C.
On February 11, 1987 water samples were obtained after purging
about three well volumes. A cleaned acrylic bailer was placed
down the well and the .-amples collected were sealed and put in
cold storage. The fuel concentrations in MW-2 and Nil-1 were
found to be the highest. The water in monitorinn well MI-2 had
levels of Benzene at 16.0 ug/ml (ppm) , toluene at 22.0 ug/ml,
total xylenes at 3.3 ug/m1 and total gasoline hydrocarbons at
200.0 ug/ml. EDB ranged from 0.20 ug/ml to 0. 32 ug/ml in IOW-2,
and total lead was 0.19 mg/kgm.
The water samples taken from MW-1 had concentrations of benzene
at 22. 0 ug/ml, toluene at 20.0 ug/ml, total xylenes at 5.6
ug/ml and total gasoline hydrocarbons at 150.0 ug/ml.
