04 August 2400
AGE-NC Project No 98-0521
^ Page 4 of 11_ z
3 1 PROBE BORINGS AND SAMPLING -
- LL_
— On 13 April 2000, tent_sail probe borings (B 1 through B 10)-were advanced at the site under
observation by the PHS-EHD The probe borings were advanced in the area of the former USTs, at
the former dispenses islands and west of the former dispensers locations to collect gi ab water
r samples Probe borings B5 and B6 were advanced to depths of 30 and 32 feet below surface grade
- (bsg), iespectively,-borings BI and B7 were advanced to 25 feet bsg, borings B2, B3, B4, B8 and
_- B 10 were advanced to 20 feet bsg, and boring B9 was advanced to 15 feet bsg Locations of the soil
pi obe borings ai e depicted'on Figure 2
1 All probe bonngs, except B5, wei e sampled using a Geoprobe soil sampling device loaded with four
6-inch by-1 125-in7ch brass sleeves Soil samples were collected at five-foot intervals The second
' - -sleeve was removed fi om the samples, covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape and
labeled Soil probe boring B5 was cored continuously to aide in determining the soil stratigraphy at
the site Samples wer e collected at five-foot intervals or in significantly impacted soil zones or in
' - changes in soil sti atigi aphy
Collected samples preserved for laboratory analysis were placed in a chilled container and transported
to McCampbell Analytical,Inc ,(MAI)under chain-of-custody The sampling equipment was washed
in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each sampling run to avoid cross-
contamination -
All probe boi rugs were perrrranently sealed to pi event vertical migration of contaminants The bonngs
were abandoned by backfilling with cement slurry from the total depth to surface grade
3 f 1 Soil Logging -
After sample preservation,,soil was extruded fi om the remaining sleeves and screened utilizing
organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo Environmental 580A,
10 0 eV, calibrated to rsobutylene) the readings were recorded on the bonng logs The soil was
_ described visually in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System-Soil boring logs are
' - attached in Appendix A_
i
' 3 12 Grab Ground Watel Sample Collection
Grab gi ound water samples were also collected from the probe borings A temporary, pre-cleaned,
' - one-inch outside diameter, 0 01 slotted well screen was placed into the soil boring to a depth of 20
feet bsg After sample retrieval, the watei sampler was disassembled and cleaned Each ground water
- — - Advanced GeohnNironmental,Inc
