20 April 1999
4 AGE-NC Project No. 98-0521
Samples were collected by Precision Enviro-Tech (PET) of Stockton, a State of California
Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory. The samples were labeled and placed
in a chilled container. The samples were transported under chain-of-custody to PET. The date
and time the soil samples were collected were noted on the chain-of-custody form included with
the attached Iaboratory report and quality control data.
The soil samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Purgeable aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes: BTEX) in
accordance with EPA Method 8020,
• Oxygenating fuel additives tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE),
methyl-butyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE) and tertiary
amyl methyl ether(TAME) in accordance with EPA Method 8260 Modified and
• The LUFT metal total lead (Pb) in accordance with EPA Methods 6020.
RESULTS
TPH-g, BTEX, fuel additives (MTBE/ ETBE) or lead were detected in each of the soil and water
samples analyzed.
TPH-g was detected in the UST floor soil samples at concentrations up to 350 milligram per
kilogram (mg/kg). While BTEX compounds were detected at concentrations up to 8 mg/kg
(benzene). MTBE was detected at concentrations up to 13 mg/kg in the former UST excavation.
Total lead was detected in the same samples at concentrations up to 8.02 mg/kg.
Stockpile soil samples contained TPH-g at concentrations up to 19 mg/kg and BTEX compounds
were detected at concentrations up to 0.14 mg/kg. MTBE was detected at concentrations up to
0.08 mg/kg in the stockpile soil samples. Total lead was detected in the same samples at
concentrations up to 8.46 mg/kg.
TPH-g was detected in the UST `grab' water samples at concentrations up to 950 milligram per
liter (mg/1). While BTEX compounds were detected at concentrations up to 62,900 microgram
per liter (ugh). MTBE was detected at concentrations up to 32,650 Mcg/l in the water samples
collected from former UST excavation. Total lead was detected in the same samples at
concentrations up to 0.86 mg/l.
