i Site Background Information/Site Conceptual Model Former MEL BOKIDES PETROLEUM, INC. -MOSSDALE ' 444 Mossdale Road,Lathrop,California ' The site is located on Mossdale Road in an incorporated commercial/agricultural area of Lathrop, California A new fuel station is presently active at the site There is one structure consisting of an office and station building, the remaining areas of the site consists of either paved or concrete ' surfaces One domestic ground water well is located on the property and an additional domestic well is located on the adjacent properly to the;asY bYthe site ,;a_z; -DG ' A set of three underground storage tanks (USTs) and three main dispenser islands operated on the site for approximately 15 years,from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s The three USTs were removed ' from a common excavation near the northwest corner of the site The history of the USTs use,tank tests, product inventory, and repairs are not known to AGE ' The surrounding sites are used for boat storage/sales and agriculture A California Department of Transportation road right-of-way is located west and north of the site tREGIONAL GEOLOGICIHYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING The site is located within the northern San Joaquin Valley,which comprises part of the Great Valley geomorphic province of California The San Joaquin Valley is formed by the Great Valley geosyncl:me,which is a large,elongate,northwest-trending,asymmetrical structural trough(basin) ' It is bordered by the Coast Ranges to the west, the Klamath Mountains and Cascade Range to the north, and the Sierra Nevada to the east This trough has been filled with sediments derived from both marine and continental sources Thickness of the sedimentary fill ranges from thin veneers ' along the valley edges to greater than 20,000 feet in the south central portion of the valley The sedimentary formations vary in age from Jurassic to Recent,with the older deposits being primarily marine in origin and the younger deposits being primarily continental Contmental-denved sediments ' were typically deposited in lacustnne, fluvial, and alluvial environments with sources being the mountain ranges surrounding the valley The site is located on unconsolidated and semi-consolidated ' alluvium, lake,playa, and terrace deposits of Quaternary age The Modesto, Riverbank, and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium ar me the ' principal sources of domestic ground water in the 13,500-square mile San Joaquin Valley Ground Water Basin (Basin 5-22) ' The San Joaquin nRver is the nearest surface water feature in the vicinity of the property, located approxnmatelyl,500 feet east of the site The San Joaquin River is primarily used for commercial and recreational boating, as well as agriculture The channel contains water continually and has a ' potential tidal effect upon ground water depth or flow direction in the area 1 ' advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc 1
