22 August 2001
AGE-NC Project 99-0570
Benzene was detected in sample MW-2 at a concentration of 17µg/1 Other BTEX compounds were
detected In samples at concentrations as high as 24µg/1 in MW-2 (ethylbenzene)
MTBE was detected in samples MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 at 98 µg/l, 16 µg/l and 100 µg/l,
respectively by EPA Method 8260 TBA was detected In the ground water sample from well MW-1
at a concentration of 26 µg/1 No other fuel oxygenates were detected In any of the samples
Laboratory results of water samples analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons are summarized In Table
2 The laboratory reports for the quarterly monitoring event (MAI Laboratory ID No 69049 to
69054) QA/QC reports and chain-of-custody form are Included in Appendix B
4.0. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings from this investigation, AGE draws the following conclusions
• Ground water on the site was flowing toward the north from the former dispenser area at a
hydraulic gradient of 0 02 feet/feet
o MTBE was detected In three ground water samples, with the highest dissolved concentrations
occurring east of the dispenser area and the former UST'excavation,at concentrations as high
as 100 µg/1
C TPH and BTEX was detected In two ground water samples
5.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
AGE recommends that quarterly monitoring continue
I6.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities The findings were based mainly
upon analytical results provided by an independent laboratory Evaluations of the geologic conditions
at the site have been made from a limited number of available data points (I a monitoring wells and
ground water samples) and subsurface conditions may vary away from these data points No other
warranty, expressed or Implied, Is made as to the professional recommendations contained In this
Ireport
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
