March 26 2001 <br /> NOA Environmental Project Number LEo0-429 <br /> Page 8 <br /> discretion ofthe site supervisor, soil samples not remanded to the custody of the analytical laboratory <br /> will be collected and analyzed by field methods for the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons This <br /> procedure will consist of emptying the contents of a tube sample into a"ziplock" style plastic bag <br /> The bag and its contents will be placed either into direct sunlight or under an alternative heat source <br /> for a period of time The bag will then be pierced and the"headspace"within tested for petroleum <br />' hydrocarbons compounds with a photoionizing hydrocarbon detection device <br /> Soils will be classified in the field during the drilling operations It is not expected that the boring will <br /> reach the level of groundwater beneath the site, as the borings will be terminated at the capillary <br /> fringe Based on groundwater data available,regional groundwater is expected to be at a depth of I5 <br /> feet below ground surface The condition of the site with respect to aquitards, aquicludes, and <br /> perched water zones is unknown <br /> Dnlbng Methodology and Equipment Decontamination Procedures <br /> Pnorto initiating the drilling opera <br /> non,NOA Environmental will contact Underground Service Alert <br /> (USA)in order to inform all public utilities that excavation and/or dulling operations would be taking <br /> place at the site <br /> Prior to arriving at the site, all drilling and sampling equipment will be washed in a solution of <br /> trisodium phosphate (TSP) and dishwashing soap and water, and rinsed twice with tap water and <br /> once with deionized water If cleaning is needed between samples, all drilling augers and associated <br /> equipment will be steam cleaned prior to use Cleaning will be conducted in such a manner so as to <br /> contain the water,which will be placed in appropriate drums,labeled,sealed,and stored on site prior <br /> to disposal in an appropriate manner <br />' The soil borings will be advanced by a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with a hollow-stem auger <br /> Drilling fluids will not be used while advancing the borings Sampling will be conducted by means <br /> of a driven split-spoon sampler containing a clean two inch diameter stainless steel sleeve <br /> It is anticipated that two stainless steel sleeves containing soil will be retrieved during each sampling <br />' drive(or interval) One soil sample from each interval will be remanded to the custody of a Cahforma <br /> Certified Laboratory The other soil sample from each interval will be field analyzed for odor and <br />' discoloration as described above under sampling location Results of the field analysis will be <br /> tabulated and presented in a technical report <br /> Based upon the "headspace" test results and field observations any sample with apparent <br /> contamination may be subjected to laboratory analysis at the discretion of the site supervisor <br /> Depending on the depth of the capillary fringe, a sample from the first, second, or third sample <br /> I <br /> i <br /> +afaao <br /> w i <br /> � A <br /> O <br /> I <br />
